    Default Saw advice

Ok because there's a few people out there that know their stuff I'm going to ask for a bit of advice.

I need to cut a car in half for a music video. Simple enuff you say, but hold on, not the easy way through the B pillars, roof & floor, no I've got to do it horizontaly so it looks like the car has sunk into the floor. So I'm not only cutting through the steel of the body but also rubber, plastic, aluminium, upholstry etc etc, and it has to look good inside and out.

Now I need a bad ass saw, I dont want to use cutting disks or a gas axe cause theyre too messy, and my plasma cutter wont do anything non conductive plus its 3 phase I wont have that where im doing the cutting.

So I'm looking at one of these and a whole bunch of blades......

does anyone know if this is up to the job or have any suggestions of alternatives?

Something like a Stihl saw with a cutting disc is your only way, or you're going to be at it forever.

You'll be through it in no time with one of those.

The saw in the link is the one i'd use if i was attacking a car. The downside is it will leave a messy finish and will be hard to keep the lines straight.
I'd cut to the outside of the line then clean it up with a grinder.
As for the seats it will pull the material all over the place so it might pay to run some masking tape around where you are cutting.

Ive got one of these but it makes a proper mess, and it'll burn everything around where it cuts.

That reciprocating saw should do it, might take a while though!

Get an Hatachi Rep saw I think they are the best, I had some ELU Bi baldes that would have done the job, getting good blades is going to be the problem...I found these the ones I had were blue 10 x ELU E35406 150MM RECIP SAW BLADES METAL WOOD | eBay

It might leave a couple of mm of darkened paint around the cut, but unless the camera is focused on it, I doubt it would be visible.

An alternative , not knowing the layout but would it not be easier to half bury the car ?
if you are going to cut it in half then it's defiantly a still saw or a reciprocating saw.

There shaw is a lt of car to cut through , should be fun.

If they half buried the car, the film makers could get shots of people inside it, looking like they are driving it!

Just dig a hole, then you can sell the car afterwards.

Better still get a green cloth, wrap it around the bottom half and leave the rest to post production boys.
