I know it's not relevent to the original poster's position, but there are some cracking deals out there on brand new cars, usually little ones like Citroen C1/C2 etc where you can buy the car on finance for a few quid a month and get 2 years insurance thrown in with the bargain. If you are a teenager, can afford the monthlies and want to get 2 years no-claims under your belt, it's seriously worth considering.

I'm looking at the avaia multi car. Come in at nearly £700 for a golf and touran with all the trimmings. Currently paying £600 for the touran and £500 for the golf with the NFU so big saving for me. Plus I get £80 back with top cash back :-)

I have just redone mine ... in the end went with Octagon for £411 a year ... thats tpft ... i have just turned 40 and have 6 years no claims ... oh and its for a 1.8 turbo audi a6 .... Octagon where the cheapest but had some bad raps over cancelling insurance due to people not making sure they recived there NCD's... I rung them to make sure they had recieved my NCD which was what alot of people where moaning about ...

Ah! Well, there are certain conditions....

    1) You need to be an old fart!

    2) You need to drive something like this:

    Or this (my modelling wagon):

    3) But then on the plus side, you don't pay any road tax either!

    4) And its even simpler to service than a heli, so you don't end up paying a fortune to garages either!

Seriously though, if you have a teenager and are looking for insurance, consider something like a Morris Minor, or Austin A35. It will be one hell of a lot cheaper to insure than a Fiesta or Peugeot, and he/she will *HAVE* to learn how to maintain it - which will see them in good stead in the future!

It also has zero street cred!

    Think about it....!

And yes, these are my daily drives - they get me to and from work. That picture of the red one was en route to Switzerland. We did 1500 miles in seven days, and it never missed a beat! It held a steady 80 all the way across France and back, and turned in about 35 mpg average for the trip, and it didn't burn any oil either! And when we got there, we didn't have any aches or pains or numb bums or any of the afflictions you get in modern cars!

I have just started on the roundabout of looking at renewal prices as well for my Astra. I'm pleasantly surprised that the price has dropped by £220 a year Fully comp for it! Apparently it's because I have changed jobs and no longer work in a licensed hotel!
