My desktop is about 4 Years old, graphics (onboard) are OK but it's a little jerky at max resolution.
What's a ballpark figure for a budget card that will run it smoothly?

Well I can only tell you that I am using an ATI Radeon 5770 by xfx and they are about £90. It is running Phoenix perfectly for me and I have the v-sync turned off.
So my card has been well and truely superceded. The 6770 is available for £76. These are PCIe connection.
Have a look at this one - a decent budget card!

If you can keep your head, when all others around are losing theirs - you have probably not understood the seriousness of the situation!!

What I should add is I am not recommending a card only the one I am using at the moment is working well with Phoenix. I am sure there is a better cheaper card than the one I have.

Superb, thanks guys. I'm not even sure what slot it is, I think it's AGP but I'll have a look. It's been a long, long time since I played around with graphics cards in fact the last one I bought was a geforce 3 which I paid nearly £300.00 for. Could only bring myself to throw it in the bin a few Months ago after accepting the fact it was pretty much useless...
Thanks for the link AL M, even has HDMI out! that could be useful![]()
I use an ASUS Silent HD card, has dual screen support, DVI, HDMI and VGA outputs and the biggest heatsink I've ever seen.
paid about £30 from Novatech.com
