Default Radio upgrade time for me, Spectrum vs Futaba vs JRpropo ?

I was all set to get the dx8 but now having second thoughts; seeing lots of people complaining of issues, fault and returns..

Looking at JR DSX 11 on you and really like the look of the menu navigation; comparing to the dx8 which looks to be more geared towards a beginner in the way that it guides you.

You say upgrade...so doesn't that mean you already have some receivers to factor into the costs?

Yep!, already running spektrum, but I would change them if i had to, i really want a good menu interface thats quick to navigate, the jr dsx11 menu looks like its really easy to get to things fast..

Not sure how helpful this will be but here goes.

I suffered through the DX8 problems and eventually went Futaba (8FG) but right now I'd say the DX8 was safe to buy.

I love the 8FG, but I would never claim that the menu and programming was straightforward, it is quick to navigate but it is a very flexible radio and that means it can take a little thought sometimes to decide how best to do what you want to do. The good side of this is that you often have more than one way to get there whereas with the DX8 it either does what you want or it doesn't, not too many ways to work around a problem.

If you are happy buying a JR radio that uses Spektrum DSM2 technology and forget about DSMX and telemetry, then the higher end JR radios are great, but I think we can forget about DSMX ever arriving for them in the UK as with the release of the new Spektrum DX18 it can only be a matter of time before JR fully move over to their own DMSS system (not compatible with Spektrum) and drops DSM2 completely.

For me at least, the lack of DSMX would put me off buying JR. Not because we absoltuely need DSMX or telemetry for that matter, but because at some point there will be something that Spektrum releases that I'd want, that needs DSMX or telemetry. Maybe not soon, but it will come eventually.

If you want flexibility the 8fg is the best for the cash by a country mile, having said that JR do have an exempliary reputation - try them and see what you feel the most comfortable with.
Come on...........get on with it doooohhhhhh!!!

I'd love the features of the 8FG but I'd hate to have to use that iPod style wheel for everthing. My 10C has a mechanical wheel, but there's the little joystick to get around the menus.
10C gets my vote It's relatively old tech and can't be updated, so if you don't mind the jog dial on the 8FG, then get that instead

One other consideration with the 10C is that unlike the 8FG/12FG etc. it does not have user updatable firmware and it does seem that Futaba have rather left this one behind when updating for new features, so if you look at the 10C just make sure it does everything you need as it is unlikley to be improved beyond the current point.

Also I seem to recall it has some limitations when using S.Bus and needing to reorder channels.

i use the new JR DMSS system with the XG7 tx and have had not one isue and i like the tx its nice to hold and for me looks quiet modern still. because of the early problems with the dx8 and uther spectrum related brown outs and things there will be a very strong FUTABA following on this poll
